Climbing the Wildspitze on 02-03.08.2025

The Wildspitze (3768m) is the highest mountain in North-Tirol and the second-highest mountain in Austria. It is located in the Ötztaler Alps.

Wildspitze Peak View

We started our journey on Saturday the 2nd of August 2025 at 8am in the morning. The drive to the mountain village Vent brought us deep into the Ötztaler Alps. After stocking our supplies at a local supermarket and grabbing some breakfast we started the hike to our destination for the day, the Breslauer Hut (m). Is was a rainy, foggy day and we reached the hut after about X hours.

Our intended route was to climb the Wildspitze from Vent via the Breslauer Hut and the TODO-Scharte. For the first day, we planned to hike to the Breslauer Hut and stay overnight there.

The hike to the Breslauer Hut was about X km long and takes one up from the starting altitude of m to m, where the hut is located. The image above shows .

Arrival Breslauer Hut

We were able to reach the hut around Xpm. The evening was spent in the pub in a nice conversation with a couple that attempted to cross the alps. The evening dinner consisted of a mushroom soup, dumplings with a vegetarian steak, and cinnamon yoghurt.

Our alarm clock went off at 4:30 am on Sunday, and we started the day with breakfast. The hike began at 5:30, still in the dark and with some fresh snow on the ground. An alien environment that was, completely silent except for the crunching of our boots in the snow, cold fog and headlights illuminating the path ahead of us.

Hiking in the Morning

We pushed ahead, trying to place ourselves between the other groups of hikers. Reaching the foot of the X-Scharte, we took our our climbing gear and began to climb the KLETTERSTEIG.

It was a pretty challenging climb, involving some vertical sections and traversing some exposed areas. The mix of bare rock, snow and ice made it even more interesting and hard to choose the right set of gear. In the end, keeping the crampons on and using the ropes was the right choice.

The top of the KLETTERSTEIG brought us over the X-Scharte and straight on the glacier.

From there, we prepared the SEILSCHAFT, took out the ice axes and continued onward to the foot of the peak. The glacier was completely covered in fresh snow, making it hard to see the crevasses but also making it easier to walk on. We stayed on the path the other groups previously made, which gave us some security.
